We discuss plans on where-to-next every day with guests, we believe this is a fun part of the journey. Forecast, surf level, wave preference, weather conditions, all these elements are discussed over an icy cold beer or your preferred refreshment.
AIRPORT TRANSFERS IN PADANG
All local transfers in Padang are included with your package. Our drivers will greet you at the airport in Padang and we will guide you through the next steps.
3 DELICIOUS HEALTHY MEALS A DAY & SNACKS
All meals are freshly prepared on board with a mix of local cuisine and some of your western favourites. No one goes hungry. With ample fridge and freezer space available on all trips, the drinks are cold, and the food is fresh and plentiful.
HEY, WHAT ABOUT DRINKS?
You won’t go thirsty with a full supply of fresh coconuts, soft drinks, tea, coffee and water. We also provide two cold beers per guest per day free of charge. Additional beers and other drinks should be purchased ahead of time. Let us know if you have specific requests and we can get it organised for you in advance. We cannot guarantee stocks can be replenished once the trip gets underway. There’s plenty of fridge and freezer space.
FISHING
Saraina is equipped with some fishing gear, although if you are a keen fisherman we recommend you to bring your favourites such as rod and spearfishing gear. It’s possible to troll as the boat is underway and do some drop line fishing when the vessel is at anchor. Some of the fish in the waters around the islands include: Tuna, Wahoo, Travelly, Coral Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, Marlin and Sailfish.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE IN PADANG
Our friendly team will guide you as soon as you arrive in Padang. Before your trip, you will complete a short form, so we know when you arrive, on which flight and all the required details. Our team will take you to Saraina or your preferred hotel if you need to spend a night in Padang. Transfers to and from the airport are included with your package.

PHOTOGRAPHY & INTERNET
Photography packages can be arranged for an additional cost, please ask our team for more information. Please reach out in advance as we don’t have full-time professionals onboard. We organise this with third-party professionals. We have Starlink Internet available, this optional add-on is available for AU$ 80 (US$ 55) per guest for the whole trip with unlimited data. Please note, the service is available when Saraina is anchored. While cruising through the islands or during the crossing to and from Padang the service is interrupted.
FLIGHTS
Trips start and end in Padang, West Sumatra. It is the guest’s responsibility to organise and pay for the flights, however, we are happy to offer advice about routes, dates and times to ensure everything aligns as smoothly as possible. As soon as you arrive in Padang our friendly staff will be at the airport to greet you and guide you through the next steps.
INSURANCE
All passengers are required to organise their own travel insurance ahead of time. Policies should cover the intended activities and must include a medivac option.
HOTEL IN PADANG
If accommodation is needed in Padang, it is the guest’s responsibility to organise it. Comfortable options in the area cost around US$ 40 per night. Mercure, Santika and ZHM are some of the options we recommend. Bookings are easily made on their website.
ADDITIONAL BEERS & ALCOHOL
We provide 2 complimentary beers per guest per day. Guests can order additional cartons of Bintang (or your preferred beverage of choice) ahead of time for a charge. If you need additional beer/alcohol during a voyage we are happy to make our best effort but we cannot guarantee as there are limited suppliers on the islands. The best is to get organised before the trips starts!
MENTAWAI SURF TAX
Mentawai Surf tax is not included in our trip prices, it’s additional to the trip cost. Surf tax is Rp 2,000,000 (approx. US$ 130 or AU$ 200) per surfer. The Mentawai Region Surf Tax was introduced by the local government in 2016. The purpose is to help support local communities and surf tourism in the area.

Can I contact home and check emails from the boat?
Yes you can, we have Starlink Internet onboard. This optional add-on is available for AU$ 80 (US$ 55) per guest for the whole trip with unlimited data. Please note, the service is available when Saraina is anchored. While cruising through the islands or during the crossing to and from Padang the service is interrupted. There is very limited 4G connectivity in the Islands via either international roaming or through local providers.
Snorkeling
Snorkel gear is available on board and many of the surf spots we visit make for incredible snorkelling experiences. The islands are a part of the “coral triangle” with over 500 species of reef building coral and 300 species of fish, its recognised as part of the “Global centre of marine diversity”
. These beautiful blue waters offer adventure both on top and under the water.
Do I need a visa?
With most passports you get a 30-day entry visa on arrival in Indonesia for about US$ 32. We recommend that you check in advance. Before departing your country, check the expiry date of your passport and make sure you have at least 6 months left.
Should I get travel insurance?
All our guests must have full comprehensive travel and medical insurance including medevac and compensation for loss of charter days due to unforeseen circumstances or emergencies. It is advised that you check with your doctor to make sure you are up to date with all vaccinations suggested for the Southeast Asia region. The Saraina crew are very capable to assist with minor injuries or illness and we will do all we can to minimize risk.
Can I charge electrical equipment?
Yes, Saraina has a 240v power supply throughout, although we advise you to bring the correct power connections from your country. Each bunk is fitted with its own USB and power outlet for device charging.
